Kaisa RooseConductor (Estonia) ![]() ”The best conductor we’ve had for years!” This is the phrase that has been excitedly repeated by audience and members of many orchestras in Denmark, Sweden and other countries where Kaisa Roose conducted - a very promising omparison of this young conductor. BiographyKaisa Roose was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1969. At the age of six she began studying piano at the Tallinn School of Music. In 1987 she was admitted to the Estonian Academy of Music, where she studied choir conducting and received a degree in 1992.The following year Kaisa Roose entered the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where she studied orchestra conducting. She completed her studies there in 1997 and received her degree. Additionally, in 1997, Kaisa Roose was awarded the Grethe Kolbe scholarship for promising young conductors. During her studies in Copenhagen,Kaisa Roose was invited to conduct Several symphony orchestras, including the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish Odense Symphony Orchestra, the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. Since her initial performances, she has conducted all of these orchestras again,some several times. Works have included both old and new, as well as a variety of styles. Audiences and critics reacted overwhelmingly positively to these early performances. Kaisa Roose, a young conductor, was praised for her confidence, her professionalism, and her clear and fresh interpretations. At the age of 28, the Royal Danish Theatreengaged Kaisa Roose to perform a modern ballet written by Kim Helweg, "Amor og Psyke". Her success in this endeavor was a turning point in her career, and it led to a three-year contract with the theater. The following two seasons of 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 were highlighted by her work with Malmö Music Theatrein Sweden. During her first season there, Ms. Roose conducted the premiere and more than 40 performances of the contemporary Swedish opera "Portrait", written by Catharina Backman and Maria Sundqvist. Performances took place at a number of theaters in Sweden and Denmark. During her next season with the theatre, Kaisa Roose conducted 12 performances of the modern Swedish musical "Kaspar Hauser". February 2, 200l Ms. Roose and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra performed a special program called "Mozart and Salieri," which included works by both composers. In a review in Helsingborgs Dagblad, Henrik Halvorson wrote that the music of both Mozart and Salieri was performed by the orchestra and the conductor with the same "schwung" and "drive". During the 2002-2003 season, Ms. Roose will conduct concerts with the West Jutland Symphony Orchestra, featuring works of Mendelssohn and Walton. She will also conduct the premiere and more then 30 performancesof Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schönberg’s musical "Miss Saigon" at Malmö Music Theatre.
