Sergei Leiferkus has appeared with major opera companies and symphony orchestras in the West since the early 1980s, when he made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Kurt Masur.

Since then he has appeared frequently at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, New York Metropolitan, Netherlands Opera Amsterdam, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires and Edinburgh, Bregenz, Glyndebourne and Salzburg Easter Festivals. He has also appeared with orchestras such as the London Symphony, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic and Philaldelphia under major conductors including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, and Sir Georg Solti.

Operatic roles include Evgeny Onegin, Mazeppa, Prince Igor, Ruprecht (The Fiery Angel), Andrei (War and Peace), Rangoni, Telramund, Klingsor, Pizarro, Scarpia, Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Mephistopheles (La Damnation de Faust) Escamillo, Gerard (Andrea Chenier), Giorgio Germont, Amonasro, Don Carlo (La Forza del Destino), Iago, Nabucco, Macbeth, Renato and nearly thirty others.

He records for BMG/Conifer (with whom he has recorded the complete songs of Mussorgsky, the first volume of which was nominated for a Grammy award), Decca, Philips, DG, Chandos, Sony and Teldec and videos of his operatic performances are available on Decca, Kultur, RM Arts, National Video Corporation and others.

He has given memorable song recitals across the USA, the UK and Ireland, Germany, Benelux and Austria and Masterclasses at the Britten-Pears School, Aldeburgh.
